Ideas with Modern Designers

We have a long standing relationship with leading Manchester creative agency Modern Designers. We have worked closely with Mat and his team on a number of branding, design, illustration and naming projects since 2013. Here are a few highlights we are proud to have been a part of.

 

Hilly running socks design concepts

Project background

Hilly was founded in 1992 by Dr. Ron Hill MBE, the former European and Commonwealth marathon champion. With a PhD in Textile Chemistry, he was able to combine his technical expertise and running background to develop a core range of running socks. Three decades on, and the Hilly brand is widely held in the running community as being at the leading edge of running sock innovation. We were commissioned by Modern Designers to explore brand identity and packaging concepts for leading running sock brand Hilly.

Insight

A pair of Hilly socks is packed full of features and innovation – constantly being refined, tested, improved and reinvented.

Brand idea

Drawing from the founder’s science background, we conceived the idea “this is sock science”.

Packaging & point of sale idea

With four different ranges of socks, and many styles within each range, we conceived the idea of a periodic table of running socks for the packaging and POS.

Brand toolkit

A simple brand toolkit was explored and developed. This included refinements to the existing Hilly logotype, creation of a new running foot brand mark logotype and development of a colour palette, typography and iconography.

Wayfinding wall graphic illustration

Project background

We were commissioned by Modern Designers to create a bespoke illustration to be used as a wall graphic inside a building in London.

Our role

Concepts, design development through to delivery of artwork assets.

Buy Art Fair brand identity and campaign concepts

 

Project background

Buy Art Fair is one of the UK’s most ambitious art fairs, selling modern and contemporary paintings, sculpture, photography and editioned prints from a selection of UK and international galleries annually in central Manchester.

Our role

We were commissioned by Modern Designers to explore visual identity and campaign concepts. We presented an extensive collection of research, inspiration and a wide range of ideas – which fed into the final creative by the team at Modern Designers.

Dig The City visual identity concepts

Project background

We were commissioned by Modern Designers to explore visual identity and campaign concepts for Dig The City, Manchester’s urban gardening festival.

Our role

Numerous conceptual routes were researched, explored, developed and presented to Modern Designers; many of which made it through to final creative. The final campaign was created by the team at Modern Designers with illustrator / lettering artist Andy Smith.

Halloween in the city logo

Project background

We were commissioned by Modern Designers to explore logo concepts for the Halloween in the City festival, which takes place annually in Manchester.

Idea

We crafted an H logo from goo, with Manchester’s iconic clock tower in the negative space.
